Company for the people?
I believed that growth was the ultimate measure of success.
"The myth that bigger is always better needs to be debunked; the best size for your company is the size that makes you and your customers happy."
By Paul Jarvis in his book Company of One
I really connected with this quote because it reminded me of a similar experience I had in my own journey. When I started my agency, I believed that growth was the ultimate measure of success.
So I expanded quickly, hired more people, and pursued bigger contracts. However, I soon found myself overwhelmed, stressed, and disconnected from my original purpose - which was to provide value and maintain a fulfilling work-life balance.
I took a step back, re-evaluated, and realised that being a 'Company of One' allowed me to focus on what really matters, delivering excellent service to my clients, staying adaptable, and enjoying a balanced life. It's about prioritising quality over quantity.
Paul Jarvis' book is a game-changer, urging us to challenge the status quo and find the right size for our businesses. If you're seeking inspiration on how to build a company that aligns with your values and goals, then this book is a must-read.
It’s one of my all time favourites!
