“Accept the past as past, without denying it or discarding it. Learn to forgive yourself and forgive others. Don’t assume that it’s too late to get involved.”
By Mitch Albom in his book Tuesdays With Morrie
I could say this is the best piece of advice I took from the dying man, Morrie.
Morrie had very little time left in this world, and yet he taught us a beautiful mantra: “Learn to detach”
The Buddhists say, “Don’t cling to things because everything is impermanent.”
What exactly does that mean?
Detaching oneself from fully experiencing life?
Not really!
Detachment doesn’t mean you don’t let the experience penetrate you. On the contrary, you let it penetrate you fully.
That’s the only way you’ll be able to detach from it.
In other words, when you learn how to die, you learn how to live!
Thanks to Mitch Albom, forever a student of Morrie, for rolling out this gold mine as a book.
