“Your vision must align with who you want to be. Your choices must align with your vision. Your effort must align with the size of your vision. Your behavior must align with your values and principles.”
By Patrick Bet-David in his book Your Next Five Moves: Master the Art of Business Strategy
Think of making the perfect pizza: you need the right ingredients, the right method, and, of course, a dash of Italian enthusiasm.
First off, let's talk about vision.
This is about knowing where you want to end up – your very own "Pizza Paradise." You wouldn't start a road trip without knowing the destination, right? Unless you enjoy running out of gas in the middle of nowhere with only cows for company.
Next, your choices must align with this vision.
Imagine you want to be a top chef but keep ordering takeout every night. Not gonna work, buddy! Your choices are like the toppings on your pizza – they need to complement each other and fit your vision of the perfect pie. Pineapple on pizza? That’s a choice you’ll have to justify to yourself!
Then there's effort.
If your vision is a deep-dish, extra-cheese, fully-loaded pizza of success, your effort should be at the level of a master chef, not a microwave dinner enthusiast. You can’t expect Michelin stars if you’re putting in minimal effort. So roll up your sleeves, and maybe invest in a good apron.
Finally, behavior is the crust that holds it all together.
It’s the foundation, and we all know what happens if the crust is bad – the whole pizza falls apart. Your behavior should reflect your values and principles. If you value honesty, don't try to pass off store-bought dough as homemade. People can tell, and trust me, they will judge you. Harshly.
Creating your "Success Pizza" requires that your vision, choices, effort, and behavior all come together harmoniously. It's not just about throwing random ingredients together and hoping for the best.
It’s about crafting something that reflects who you are and what you believe in, with a sprinkling of dedication and a generous dollop of hard work.
