Unhappiness isn’t the result of genetics or past trauma or career trouble. I think that some of our happiness is simply due to the burden of all our things.
By Fumio Kasaki in his book Goodbye, Things.
I believe in the saying “practise what you preach”
And so i’m telling you, i don’t think it’s possible for us to give up all material possessions and live a completely minimalistic life.
If you can do it, awesome! You’re a way better person than i am.
But what minimalism can also be is, not deriving meaning ONLY from material possessions.
It’s sort of like a grey area.
You can buy new clothes, accessories, home decor or anything that gives you an instant hit of dopamine.
But it is bound to eventually wear off.
Now, you can either be stuck in this loop of split second rushes, or actually start conditioning your mind into believing that your self worth isn’t defined by external things.
Where your value, your happiness or your mental peace does not derive from what you wear, what you eat or what you own.
It’s definitely way more economical than the life most of us are living right now xD
And it simultaneously helps you develop gratitude for the few things you do own, and focus more on the little pleasures of life (instead of chasing after your next dopamine hit)
Sounds like a win to me!
If material possessions control your mind, body & soul, this is for you.
