Remember “garbage in, garbage out”? You’re only going to be as good as the people you surround yourself with.
By Austin Kleon in his book Steal Like an Artist
I can't stress enough how important these words are to someone who was a social media addict for a while. I'm taking this opportunity to talk about our precious little digital space.
Back in college, I used to scroll through hours of Instagram every day, and it got me nowhere.
The moment I decided to quit social media and take some time off, it felt like my life took a turn. I was working on random things, and to be honest, I think I became a better designer because I didn't have things to compare myself to.
I even started a 365-day poster challenge for myself, and to this date, none of them has seen the light of the internet.
But now I use social media more mindfully and follow some amazing people who are absolute juggernauts in the field, and I'm learning so much from them instead of looking at weird dances.
It's up to you what you put inside your head, whether it's gossip or something that can completely change your life.
I really think this book isn't garbage, so maybe buy it here?
