Habits are the compound interest of self improvement.
By James Clear in his book Atomic Habits.
Certain tasks, when carried out for a prolonged period of time (precisely 66 days), turn into the pot of gold known as "habits".
So, according to this study, if I continue to wake up at 5 am for 66 days, i will become a better person?
Correct?
Well, not really. It takes a lot more for someone to become a better person than just waking up at the crack of dawn (for 66 days).
But you have to start somewhere.
And so it has been said, habits are the compound interest of self-improvement.
Picking up one simple habit and keeping at it until it becomes a part of your lifestyle brings you one step closer to your ideal and improved self.
These small steps add up to result in the creation of an extraordinary human being who can conquer the world (over-exaggerated purely for dramatic effect).
But that is the gist of it. Your future self is in your control. Who knew?
To test this theory out, I made a routine of sitting down to work first thing in the morning, instead of “watching one episode” (pronounced: 4 episodes) on Netflix.
I’m on day 13 today, and my productivity level has never been better. Let’s see if I can keep it up for 53 more days and turn it into a habit.
To delve deeper into the art of habit-building, Atomic Habits is the book for you!
